Focused on the best interest of the child

The majority of our work concerns children and young people. As much as we respect and seek to pursue the rights and interests of the parents involved, the best interests of the child are at the heart of our work.

Neutral

Only those who are not perceived as representatives of one party can mediate between conflicting parties. For this reason, ISS works primarily on behalf of courts and authorities; only in exceptional cases do we work directly for private individuals. We will therefore generally refer private individuals to the youth welfare offices responsible for them - not without first listening to them and providing them with initial information.

Process-oriented

In order to achieve the best possible solution in a case in the interests of the parties involved, we work in a process-oriented manner. We do not have an outcome in mind that we absolutely want to achieve, but rather we accompany a case and adapt to any changes that occur.

Interdisciplinary

The work of the ISS is first and foremost social work. Successful work is not possible without knowledge of international conventions, European regulations and applicable German law. Social pedagogical and legal knowledge is therefore indispensable. And if necessary, social workers and lawyers are in close contact when dealing with cases.

Mutual

International work is not a one-way street - migration takes place from and to Germany. For this reason, work within the ISS is based on the principle of reciprocity, i.e. the ISS asks German specialist agencies for cooperation on issues from abroad.
